Put Your Best Facet Forward

Speaker

Jonathan Koren

Faceted search interfaces allow users to easily explore large search spaces by interactively constructing complex key-value queries on metadata. When there are many facets (i.e. metadata keys), choosing which ones to display to the user and in which order can become troublesome. Currently, most systems take manual ad hoc approaches to solving this problem. In this paper, we present an automatic facet ranking method that can greatly aid users in quickly finding the documents they are searching for. This is work that is being prepared for submission to CIKM 09.
