Assistant Professor opening in experimental computer systems

The Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Cruz invites applications for a tenure track (Assistant Professor) faculty position. We seek outstanding applicants in the area of experimental computer systems. Preferred applicants will have demonstrated research and teaching expertise in at least one area in experimental computer systems, broadly conceived, such as distributed systems, operating systems, storage systems, and computer security. The new faculty member in this position is expected to develop a research program, advise graduate students in their research area, obtain external funding, develop and teach courses within the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and to perform university and professional service. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service.

The Computer Science Department has nationally and internationally known research groups in many areas, including data storage systems and database systems. The department is home to the NSF Industry/University Cooperative Reseach Center (I/UCRC) for Research in Storage Systems (that's us!), and faculty in many disciplines frequently collaborate with companies in Silicon Valley, only 35 minutes from campus. In addition, the university is embarking on a Data Science initiative that will encompass a broad spectrum of research activities in Big Data, including research efforts extending beyond computer science into areas such applied mathematics and statistics, astronomy, computational biology and biomolecular engineering, economics, as well as new efforts in areas such as computational social science, the environment and sustainability, and learning analytics.
